This interactive, case‑based session will guide participants through the assessment and management of emergency patients, from first presentation through to stabilisation. It highlights the vital role of the veterinary nurse in effective triage, structured assessment, stabilisation and ongoing monitoring, supported by a real‑world case example.

Lyn O’Byrne

Lyn qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1992 and has worked in charity and referral hospitals, gaining the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Medical) in 2004. She later specialised in Emergency and Critical Care, joining the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals in 2009. Lyn holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Education and is currently a Senior Teaching Fellow and co‑deputy course director for Advanced Veterinary Nursing programmes at the Royal Veterinary College. Her clinical interests include emergency care, pain management, ethics and holistic nursing.
